Why we deliberately stay a small team

Staying small isn't a constraint we put up with - it's a deliberate choice that makes the work better. Fewer hand-offs, more ownership and senior people close to the code mean faster decisions and software we're genuinely proud to put our name on.

Why we deliberately stay a small team

Most studios grow as fast as they can. We chose a different path. Beeva stays small on purpose, and that decision shapes everything from the quality of our work to the way it feels to work with us. Here is the thinking behind it.

Small teams communicate better

Every person you add to a project multiplies the lines of communication between them. Past a certain size, teams spend more energy staying in sync than building. A small team keeps everyone in the same conversation, so context is shared rather than relayed.

The people who plan are the people who build

In a small team there is no wall between strategy and execution. The engineers who scope your product are the ones who ship it, which means decisions carry their full context and nothing is lost in translation.

Seniority over headcount

We would rather have a few experienced people who have shipped real products than a large team learning on your budget. Senior engineers make better decisions faster, and they need less supervision to do excellent work.

  • Fewer people means fewer handoffs and less lost context.
  • Everyone stays close to the product and the user.
  • Decisions are faster because the room is smaller.
  • Accountability is clear: you always know who is doing what.

Quality scales down, not up

Craft is easier to protect in a small team. When everyone can see the whole product, standards stay high naturally, because there is nowhere for shortcuts to hide. Growth for its own sake would put that at risk, so we resist it.

We do not stay small because we cannot grow. We stay small because it is how we do our best work.

Key takeaways

  • Small teams spend less energy staying in sync and more on building.
  • The people who plan the work are the same people who build it.
  • We prioritize senior experience over raw headcount.
  • Craft and accountability are easier to protect at a small scale.
